SUMMARY:Az Predator Callers Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder why extremist groups like the Center of Biological Diversity\, PETA\, Wildlife Defenders\,  and the like get their money and so many followers?  Amazed at how they have succeeded in changing policy on hunting and trapping? Tired of seeing your rights being whittled away? \nLearn how they are doing it\, and how you can  help turn the tide. How shaking your head and complaining will only encourage them and succeed at banning heunting all together. \nRyan Trousdale with the Trappers Association has been studying this for years and will share what he had discovered in tonights meeting. \nRyan Trousdale\, past president of the Arizona Trappers Association\, now the current Education Director. He lives in the desert on a 3 acres 40 miles east of Yuma near the border and Marine bomb range. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nThe perfect club to learn to hunt! SUMMARY:Griffin Ranch Clean up
DESCRIPTION:The Griffin Ranch is one of five being inducted into the Arizona Farming and Ranching Hall of Fame this year ! \nJoin APC on April 22nd at Griffin Ranch in our effort to maintain and improve land owner relations and keep open access to public lands. In 1992 the Arizona Game and Fish Department initiated a new program called Adopt-A-Ranch. The idea for this program was patterned after the Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway Program. Nearly 30 Adopt-A-Ranch projects are completed every year to help maintain access on about 2 million acres of land.  This is the perfect conservation project for the entire family; bring the kids. \nDirections: From Globe\, drive north on US 60 (State Highway 77) about 20 miles\, then turn NW onto Haystack Butte road (FR 303).  The meet up spot is approximately 2.5 miles from Hwy 60.  We’ll be in the Tonto National Forest\, Unit 24A\, at approximately 33.6187°\, -110.6620°. \nPlease be at the meet-up spot no later than 9 AM.  Tools and trash bags will be supplied by Arizona Game and Fish\, and lunch & drinks will be provided by APC. We expect to be finished by mid-afternoon\, so this should allow everyone to get back to Phoenix by evening. \nPlease RSVP to Hank Scutoski at hpski9@gmail.com.  This will help us ensure we have enough tools and food.  But if you forget or are not sure if you can make it\, don’t let that stop you from participating.  Come on out. \nThe Griffin ranch is located north of Globe. From Phoenix drive east on US60 to Haystack Butte Road\, which is approximately 16.5 miles north of the US 60-US 70 junction.  Drive approximately 2.5 miles north on Haystack Butte Road to the meetup spot on the west side of the road (33.61881\, -110.66222).

SUMMARY:Griffin Ranch Clean-up-cancelled
DESCRIPTION:cancelled! \n  \nJoin APC on April 16th at Griffin Ranch in our effort to maintain and improve land owner relations and keep open access to public lands. \n  \n

SUMMARY:APC Member Meeting
DESCRIPTION:LION\, LIONS\, LIONS! \nMark Healy will join us for his excellent lion calling seminar! Mark spent many years studying the behavoirof lions and is a wealth of knowledge. His presentation is one to NOT miss! We are also working on getting April Howard in from Game and Fish to discuss the current mountain lion population. \nWith two months left in the current season only two zones have been closed and 139 lions remain available for take for take across the state. \nHunt records will be collected at the April meeting.  There are indications that few members hunted this season. \nA newsletter editor is still needed.  The issuance of a newsletter might help to improve meeting attendance. If you have any other suggestions to improve meetings please share! \nThe Griffin Ranch clean-up project is planned for April 16 (Saturday).  We will ask for a count of those planning to attend.  We need this to forecast food\, etc.  Troy Christensen plans to attend as well as John Griffin. \nElection of officers for the 2022-2023 season will be held during the May meeting.

SUMMARY:August 2021 Member Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Please plan to attend the first post Covid APC meeting of 2021 on August 12  where we eat a celebratory BBQ and present the APC awards.    Please bring your friends and family. The food will be similar to the last awards meeting.  Please reply to this email if you plan to attend.  . \n\nCongratulations are in order to the following on being selected for an APC award! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBill Baber\nExpert Caller of the Year  2019/2020\n\n\nDarryl Corfman\nHunter Caller of the Year  2019/2020\n\n\nMark Miller\nJourneyman  Caller of the Year 2019/2020\n\n\nGary Wolfrum\nNovice Caller of the Year   2019/2020\n\n\nTony Hamel\nNovice Caller of the Year   2019/2020\n\n\n\n\n\nI attended the PVCI meeting on July 7 that featured Larissa Hardings\, AZGFD Small Game Program Manager presentation on bears and animal diseases.  She is quite knowledgeable\, has been in about 100 bear dens\, and found none of the bears to be asleep.  Bears like to make a bed of Juniper bark for their winter nap.  If you want to find a bear den\, look for a juniper tree with bark scratched off.  Another interesting tidbit on bears is that they sometimes bring carrion into the den to munch on during the winter.\n\nLarissa’s animal disease talk included  RHDV2   Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type 2 which directly affects predator callers\, because the domestic and wild rabbit populations have been wiped out by the disease.  The predator’s food choice has been limited by the disease\, which cannot be transmitted to humans.  If you see a rabbit with a bloody nose\, it likly has the RHDV2. The disease was first documented in China in 1984.  Australia and New Zealand introduced the disease to reign in their wild rabbit populations.  The disease in the USA might have been transmitted by imported pets.  All living things need shelter\, water\, and food supplied to predators by rabbits has been greatly diminished.  I had a HAM Javelina hunt in unit 22 this year and witnessed two very hungry coyotes off the Barnhardt Trail.  In both situations the coyotes paid no attention to me\, but were running like the coyote and road runner cartoon after small rodents.\n\nPlease sign up to be a mentor at the August 13-15 PVCI Predator Hunting Boot Camp at Vincent Ranch in hunt unit 4A.  My grandson\, Kitt age 9\, granddaughter Thora age 8\, and wife Jane will be attending the Saturday session. \n\nhttps://register-ed.com/programs/arizona/170-outdoor-skills-network\n\nPlease think about the topics that you would like for future meetings and let the APC board know your thoughts.\n\nRegards\,\n\nJerry Thorson
